The Mission Of The Bishop Brady High School Guidance Department Is To Guide and Prepare Students For College.

Guidance staff work collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and college admissions officers with the goal of assisting students as they discover and receive acceptances from the colleges that best "match" their talents, interests, and goals.

During Freshman and Sophomore Years, guidance counselors focus on getting to know each individual student in depth. Counselors ensure that all students are enrolled in challenging courses and understand that the quality of their coursework impacts the colleges they may eventually be admitted to. Counselors make frequent classroom presentations on a variety of topics while helping each student explore careers, establish an academic "work ethic" and find the resources that lead to academic success.

Our systematic college process begins in earnest during Junior Year with "College MiniFairs" and PSAT testing in the fall and then individual conferences and classroom presentations in the spring.  Conferences focus on assessing individual interests, strengths, and aspirations and result in the development of a "list" of prospective colleges that might best "fit" each student.  Classroom presentations for students and evening workshops for parents provide an overview of the tasks and timetable for completing the Junior Year Agenda (search process, visitations, interviews, admissions testing).  Conferences with parents are available upon request.

The emphasis during Senior Year is on the application process. Classroom presentations, evening parent workshops, and frequent individual conferences with every senior focus on the Senior Year Agenda (applications, deadlines, testing, writing college essays, requesting recommendations, and financial aid).  Because counselors have developed strong relationships with each student, guidance letters of recommendation are personal, specific, and highlight each student's accomplishments and strengths.

Throughout all four years, guidance counselors closely monitor each student's personal, social, and academic development.  Counselors provide individual counseling and assist students and their parents with problem-solving and decision making, school adjustment, and peer issues. Guidance counselors provide support and the resources that will help students grow holistically.

  Guidance Message

Welcome to the Bishop Brady Guidance Department.   We have designed our pages to provide current and relevant information for students and parents by including a number of "links" to many popular Web sites.  We also encourage students and parents to come see us to discuss their academic concerns and post-graduation options and to take advantage of the many resources available in and through the Guidance Department.

Links for BBHS Guidance information can be found in the " select page"  box, above.  Under "Resources/Links," you will find specific links to our more popular resources.  Scroll down to find links to colleges, Admission testing, test preparation, career, scholarships and financial aid, college search engines, study skills, and current "Guidance News."

For more information, stop by the Guidance office to browse our resources or call to schedule an appointment with your son or daughter's counselor. You can email your counselor here.
