No. 3 Bishop Brady 1, No. 6 Kennett 0, 8 inn.
It took until the bottom of the eighth inning, but eventually third-ranked Bishop Brady (17-2) was able to get on the board and defeat sixth-ranked Kennett.
Leslie Stratton led off the final frame with a walk and advanced to second on a Keelin Dougherty sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Michaela Carbonneau worked a lengthy at-bat before driving a pitch back up the middle. With two outs, Stratton was running hard all the way. Kennett's shortstop and second baseman converged on the ball, with the latter scooping it up off the dirt and rushing a throw to home, only to see Stratton crossing the plate with the winning run.
It was Carbonneau's second game-ending hit of the season.
"She's had some great clutch hitting," Brady Coach Shawn Brechtel said. "She's been a consistent hitter all year."
Kennett (15-6) threatened in the top of the seventh inning with two runners on, but Jill Nemcovich was able to pitch her way out of the jam. The senior earned the win, her second against Kennett this year, lasting all eight innings and allowing four hits and three walks while striking out 14.
Nemcovich dominated Kennett batters for most of the day, keeping the opposing lineup off balance with an explosive fastball and soft changeup. She struck out the side in both the fifth and eighth innings, with 10 of the Eagles' final 12 outs coming by way of the K.
The Green Giants will take on No. 2 Portsmouth in the Class I semifinals on Tuesday at Memorial Field.
