LEAD GUIDE SUCCEED
The Briareus Society was founded in 2006 in an effort to strengthen the Admissions Office and its program and procedures when it comes to welcoming prospective students and families to our community. The thirty-five members, all of whom are juniors and have been handpicked for their enthusiasm, pride and leadership also help to positively promote Bishop Brady High School and be a model for which we hope all of our students will assimilate.
The name was derived from a mythological character, Briareus. Briareus was a Greek giant (Go Giants!) who had 100 hands. Because the mission of the society is to lend a hand to the Admissions Office and assist in leading and guiding our applicants through their interview process, provide the visitor with a tour, and ultimately become a mentor to any new freshmen they assisted during the society member's senior year, the idea of "100 helping hands" was our attraction to the name. It is pronounced bree-au-re-ous.
Sophomores are nominated by current Briareus Society members as possible candidates for the following year's society. The ideal candidate is a student who is a positive role model for their peers; one who is actively involved in the Brady community; one who demonstrates that they are motivated to do their best with their academics; and someone who will be professional and respected representative for the Brady community. The ideal candidate must also be well versed about the Brady community and be able to confidently address questions from visitors to the school.
